This incredible archival footage from 1936 shows a Delaware & Hudson Railroad 4-6-0 steam locomotive delivering new boats to Hall's Marina at Lake George by rail. The original 8mm film reel was found in a desk drawer at Hall's and was professionally digitized.
The boats were delivered in an automobile boxcar, which had end doors that allowed automobiles to be driven on and off the train. The boxcar was winched down a rail ramp directly into the lake, where the boats were floated out and returned to the marina under their own power. The tracks that were used for this operation were located just east of the D&H's Lake George station, which is visible in the background of several shots in this footage.
This digital footage was graciously supplied to the Delaware & Hudson Railway Historical Society by Hibbard Nash and the Saratoga, Corinth & Hudson Railway.
